Leopard Pro Cycling back at the Gooikse Pijl
For the fifth time in succession, Leopard Pro Cycling is present at the Gooikse Pijl, a Belgian UCI 1.1 race. It's edition sixteen for this often unpredictable race. Leopard travels with a strong roster, that will be able to play a role in different race scenarios.
Roster Gooikse Pijl: Jack Burke, Alexander Krieger, Jan Maas, Gaëtan Pons, Mario Spengler & Bas van Belle - DS: Gregor Willwohl
The Gooikse Pijl consists of no less than nine local laps in and around Gooik, a small town southwest of the Belgian capital Brussels. Those nine laps cover almost two hundred kilometers, which can not be underestimated, since each lap the riders have to cover the Turkeyestraat and the Blijkheerstraat, which are two cobbled sections. In the past, the race sometimes was decided in a bunch sprint finish, but recent years also showed small groups battling for victory in the streets of Gooik. Leopard Pro Cycling brings a promising roster to this race and hopes to improve on earlier results. Besides Pit Schlechter finishing fifth in 2015, the team always finished in the top twenty, but never came close to more top results. However, opposition will be tough, with 23 strong teams at the start line - amongst which three World Tour teams - and the likes of riders like Greg Van Avermaet, Dylan Groenewegen and Pascal Ackermann.
