GP Marcel Kint: Alexander Krieger finishes in 7th

Alexander Krieger has boosted Leopard Pro Cycling's morale once more by finishing seventh at yesterday's Grote Prijs Marcel Kint. The German showed his power in the bunch sprint that decided over the winner of the Belgian race.

A flat race over 188 kilometers between Kortrijk and Zwevegem was on the menu for the riders. Not long after the start, five riders took off and formed the break of the day. The group managed to grow a lead that went just over three minutes. The first part of the bunch was filled with Leopard outfits that gathered around sprinter Alexander Krieger. Despite the very high pace - almost 46 kilometers per hour for the entire race -, the situation was always under control for the Luxembourgish team.

In the final, Corendon-Circus tried to split the peloton two times in an open field, the last time succesfully. Altough some riders managed to return to the bunch, the first group was 'only' fifty riders strong. The front group was caught and the same goes for late attackers in the final kilometers. A bunch sprint was inevitable and Alexander Krieger positioned himself well to sprint to seventh place. French sprinters Bryan Coquard and Nacer Bouhanni took the first two positions.

Alexander Krieger: "It was a typical Belgian race, quite hectic with a lot of wind and sometimes bad roads. We had to be on point all race long and watch out for dangerous moves. Five riders went clear and this was good for us, we didn't have to be in this group. In the local laps it became really fast and there was a lot of fighting for positions. With one and a half laps to go, I punctured. My teammates waited for me and we moved back to the front, so I could prepare for the bunch sprint. I finished seventh, but there was not much missing for a top five finish. I am looking forward to the Tour de Luxembourg, which is a big goal."
